A blend of heavy guitar riffs, double kicks and twinkling Y2K- inspired synths create her signature sound as well as her ability to switch between sugary-sweet vocals and harsh, chilling screams.
2024 has propelled the singer’s career to international recognition as a result of her releases this year. AILSHA was runner-up in Ireland’s Eurosong National Final in January for Eurovision 2024 with hit single ‘Go Tobann‘ (achieved ‘Future Flavour’ with Nels Hylton at BBC Radio 1, inclusion in Spotify editorial playlists Viral 50 Ireland, Misfits 2.0 and The Pit, reached #1 in the Irish iTunes Rock Charts and topped Eurovision reader polls globally during Eurosong), and her previous single ‘Haunted‘ achieved inclusion in Spotify editorial playlists New Music Friday UK, The Pit, The Locker, Rock The World and Alternative Ireland, features on BBC Radio 1 (Future Flavour and BBC Introducing Rock), and reached #1 in the Irish iTunes Rock and Metal Charts.
Off the back of the success of her previous two releases this year enters ‘MEOW‘, an exciting concoction of alternative and progressive metal which laments the everyday life of AILSHA’s beloved- but annoying- pet cat, Nugget.
Boasting three legs, a pretty face and serving a tonne of attitude, ‘MEOW‘ describes Nugget’s demands for constant admiration and her persistent pursuit of endless attention. Forever looking down upon everybody else around her with lyrics like “give me a reason why I should come down to Earth, if you won’t look at me when you’re my universe“.
In the ‘sparklecore’ artist’s own words; “‘MEOW’ was a fun song to create and was inspired by my cat Nugget’s constant demands for attention. I wanted to write the song from her perspective which I feel applies to most pets- they’re only here for a short time, but a good time, and within that short time we become their whole world. I wanted to sing/scream the lyrics in a way I imagine she would if she could and I tried things with my vocals that I hadn’t tried in a track before. It’s definitely the heaviest song yet and already a hit at my live shows- I can’t wait for people to hear this one.”
