As with the past few BC projects, “Psychopath” is a bombastically mosh-mangled take on modern metal, full of breakdown-heavy grooves and gnarled guitar work.
As for Ice, he’s embodying the titular psychopath as a blade-swinging, rampaging maniac determined to “torture and kill and murder at will.” The song also takes stock of serial killer infamy (“How morbid can fame be?“), while later going full splatter-house with a mid-song revelry of chainsaw-induced death screams.
The FFAA connection continues on the bridge, where that band’s Joe Bad goes berserk with an intimidating guest spot positioning himself as a certified “American Psycho.” You can check it all out via the lyric video below.
A release date has yet to be pinned down for Merciless, but it will arrive via Century Media Records. The album follows 2020’s Carnivore, which nabbed Body Count a Grammy for Best Metal Performance for standout cut “Bum-Rush.”
The band will be performing at major European festivals throughout summer and the tour promises to be an electrifying showcase of BODY COUNT’s discography. Fans can expect the same intensity and commitment to powerful messages that have always been a hallmark of BODY COUNT’s music, which is known for its bold, unapologetic style, blending heavy metal with socio-critical themes.
The upcoming Merciless tour marks a highly anticipated return to live performances after the pandemic-induced hiatus and is a celebration of BODY COUNT’s resilience and continued relevance in the metal genre.
