If you’ve not heard the title track, ‘Limb From Limb‘, which was released a few weeks ago then you’re in for a treat.
We caught up with vocalist, Aaron Gilbert on the bands first night as special guests with Night Demon, where he talks about the new album and much more….
OD – This being the bands debut album, does it feel surreal to finally have it released for the world to enjoy?
Gilbert – Absolutely. This has been a lifetime in the making and it is so surreal to finally push it out into the world to exist!
OD – Of all the tracks on the album, what is your favourite and why?
Gilbert – Drop Dead. No question. I wrote the music to this song when I was 17, and I’ve carried it with me through most of my adult life so far, I only wrote the lyrics a couple years ago. It just holds a very special place in my heart. And it’s such a weird experience seeing people enjoy a song I wrote in my bedroom 12 years ago!
OD – The writing period of this album goes right back to when the band was formed and although the new album is out today [Friday May 12th], has there been any progress with new material?
Gilbert – Oh you better believe it. We’ve already got the next two albums written, demo’d, rehearsed, and ready to record. And I gotta tell you, we’re very proud of our debut release, but our best stuff is ahead of us, of that I can assure you!
OD – Looking to the future of the bands sound, are there any desires to start pushing the sound further down the Death/Thrash route or is there some, left of centre experimental stuff being written?
Gilbert – Thrash/Death is definitely our foundation for writing, but we are so much more than that. Who knows what the future holds, but I imagine our foundation will remain the same. I just love Thrash so much. I have a huge array of influences, as do the rest of the band, so we try to incorporate as much as we can into our style.
OD – Unmaker definitely has a more “old-school” sound. If you could go back to any period of time on Metal’s history, where and when would it be?
Gilbert – Oh without a doubt it would be the 80’s. I would give my left arm to be part of the Big 4 scene! That being said, I think Heavy Metal is absolutely thriving these days, and has evolved to insurmountable heights musically. But it all began in the 80’s.
OD – You’re currently on tour with Night Demon for a few Irish dates. Are there any other live plans for the remainder of the year that you’d like to share with us?
Gilbert – Currently, we have nothing to report. We are very eager to release our album and see where it takes us. You never know, but you have not seen the last of us, that’s for sure!
OD – If you could change anything about the Irish Metal scene, what would it be?
Gilbert – There’s a question! There are a couple of things I would change, but the main thing is, I would LOVE for there to be more opportunities. Unfortunately, it is just so hard to break out of this country. I mean, there’s like, 2 big metal promoters in the Republic? Not nearly enough for the amount of stellar talent this country has to offer. So the ratio of promoter to artists is very poor.
I also think bands should get paid more for their live work. It’s damn hard to get all that gear to and from shows, and most of the time, gigging actually COSTS you money. Maybe one day we will see this idyllic dream come true! Until then, I would just encourage everyone to be as kind to your cohorts as possible. We’re all in an uphill struggle at the end of the day, but we’re all headed in the same direction.
‘Limb From Limb‘ will be available from May 12th on all streaming platforms. For more information on the band, please click this link.
