Devin Townsend has started to drop some classic Strapping Young Lad bangers into his live shows and the first footage emerged this week. Check it out below;

Devin Townsend returned to the heavier material from his past during two shows at the ‘70,000 Tons Of Metal‘ cruise earlier this month.

The shows were the first taste of the second ‘volume’ of touring he has planned for his ongoing “Empath” album cycle.

They saw him revisit material from Strapping Young Lad with some of the tracks having last been played onstage by Devin close to fourteen years ago. It also appears that the SYL song “Almost Again” received its live debut during the cruise. Tracks from the now-defunct Devin Townsend Project were also included in the set.

Townsend enlisted the following musicians as his backing band for those performances

Guitars – Wes Hauch (ex-The Faceless/Black Crown Initiate)
Bass – Kyle Konkiel (Bad Wolves)
Drums – Dirk Verbeuren (Megadeth/ex-Soilwork)

The setlists for the shows in question ran as follows:

January 07th, 2020:

“Aftermath” (Strapping Young Lad cover)
“Velvet Kevorkian” (Strapping Young Lad cover)
“All Hail The New Flesh” (Strapping Young Lad cover)
