Today, Hultén unveils ‘Afterlife,’ the haunting first single from the new album, accompanied by a visually striking music video shot at Westlanda Flygplats. Directed by Jakob Johansson of @kollurudproductions, the video amplifies the song’s ethereal narrative. Watch below…
Speaking about the track, Hultén explained: “‘Afterlife’ takes you deep into the underworld, where your soul must navigate a labyrinth of chilling corridors. It’s a journey fraught with danger, as you confront a spectral being determined to drain your energy. Yet, amidst the trial, you uncover hidden treasures\u2014valuable emotions and insights that guide you forward.”
Hultén added, “At the heart of this dark maze burns a solitary candle, a symbol of discovery. Reaching it reveals the true purpose of your journey: reclaiming the lost fragments of yourself. The treasures you uncover are pieces of your own being, waiting to be found once more.”
This evocative release marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for Hultén as he continues to explore the boundaries of storytelling and sound.
Recorded at Stockholm’s Chanting Studios and co-produced with Ola Ersfjord (Lady Blackbird/Tribulation/Monolord), the new album Eyes Of The Living Night is a remarkable showcase of Hultén’s distinctive blend of folk, rock and pop, drawing influence from the likes of Bert Jansch, John Martyn and Nick Drake as well as contemporaries such as Anna Ternheim, Chelsea Wolfe and Hexvessel.
Eyes of the Living Night delves deep into the human spirit. Merging the raw emotion of his earlier work with a more expansive, otherworldly sound, Jonathan Hultén has created an album that shimmers, taking listeners through the decades of rock, synth-pop, blues and folk on a journey best described as “Ambient Dream-grunge”.
