The upcoming documentary series, Marilyn Manson: Unmasked delves into the life and controversies surrounding the infamous musician.

The first episode, The Birth of Marilyn Manson, chronicles Brian Warner’s transformation into the enigmatic figure of Marilyn Manson, detailing his ascent to fame.

The episode examines his provocative stage performances and controversial backstage behaviour, which turned him into a polarising figure at the centre of moral outrage. Accused of corrupting American youth and allegedly inspiring acts of violence, including the Columbine High School massacre, Manson leveraged the backlash to portray himself as a misunderstood artist and a voice for disaffected youth.

The second episode, Allegations of Abuse, addresses the serious accusations leveled against Manson, featuring a candid interview with actress Evan Rachel Wood. In 2021, Wood publicly accused Manson of “horrific” abuse through a social media post, later elaborating on her claims in the HBO docu-series, Phoenix Rising.

The series concludes with The Reckoning, exploring the far-reaching impact of the abuse allegations on Manson’s career and the entertainment industry at large. Following Wood’s accusations, additional women came forward with similar claims. While Manson has vehemently denied any non-consensual acts, describing the allegations as “horrible distortions of reality,” the fallout has been significant.

In March 2022, Manson filed a defamation lawsuit against Wood, which he dropped last year, agreeing to pay her approximately $327,000 in attorney fees, as reported by Deadline.

Marilyn Manson: Unmasked premieres on Channel 4 on Tuesday, January 14, at 9 p.m.
