2023 is a landmark year for Download Festival as they are celebrating their 20th anniversary with two no-repeat sets from the worlds biggest band, Metallica. Check out the setlist below…

Metallica once again returned to the hallowed ground of Download at Donington Race Track (original home of Monsters of Rock) for the first of two live sets over the festival weekend.

By all accounts, (despite issues with twelve mile traffic tailbacks, parking and entrance to the sold out festival site), the Metal legends delivered a sensational live performance to the staggering one hundred thousand punters who basked in the glorious sunshine enjoying the likes of Halestorm and Alterbridge, who were tasked to loosing up the massive crowd.

With reports of Metallica’s performance being heard up to fifteen miles from the festival site, James, Kirk, Lars and Rob unleashed a two hour set of bangers from dusk to just before 11pm, utilising their ‘72 Seasons‘ stage production which consists of six enormous PA towers fitted with state of the art high-definition digital screens.

Check out the fan filmed highlights of Metallica’s performance last night below:

The setlist from last night’s performance was as follows…

Creeping Death
Harvester of Sorrow
Leper Messiah
King Nothing
Lux Æterna
Screaming Suicide
Fade to Black
Sleepwalk My Life Away
Nothing Else Matters
Sad but True
The Day That Never Comes
Seek & Destroy
Master of Puppets

Tonight UK headliners, Bring Me The Horizon will close the show alongside the likes of Architects, Evanescence, Within Temptation, and many more.
