Housed in a 4-CD box set with a 300-page biography, the package appears to be promising as there is a great deal to say about an insight into the life and times of Clark, along with a fantastic and detailed account of his musical career.
The four-disc compilation begins chronologically with Clarke’s early years, proceeds via Fastway, to Motörhead’s zenith, and concludes with the heyday of hi solo career to which there are many diamonds in the rough.
In the rather hefty paperback biography, authors Kris Needs and Mariko Fukiwara provide an in-depth and loving account of the man behind the instrument. Clarke comes across as the earnest and forthright Rocker he was who had no qualms in telling it how it was, as long as music is concerned.
The narrative is full of other stories about touring, making records, and the affairs of band life, and Clarke’s own relationships with him and his colleagues, particularly him and Lemmy Kilmister, whom he fought a lot with. The chapters dealing with the formation and development of Motörhead, particularly in its early years, are most revealing.
For the loyal audiences of Motörhead, Fastway, and Fast Eddie Clarke, Make My Day is an essential addition to any fans collection.
