“RORY’S GUITAR NEEDS TO STAY IN IRELAND” – JOE BONAMASSA

Posted on by Oran

With the recent news of Joe Bonamassa celebrating the legacy of guitar legend, Rory Gallagher for two exclusive live shows in The Marquee Cork, on July 1st & 2nd 2025, Overdrive caught up with the Blues master to find out his thoughts on the much talked about auction of Gallagher’s iconic 1961 Fender Strat…

In a recent interview with Overdrive, Bonamassa told us that it doesn’t feel right to take Gallagher’s guitar away from Ireland.

When asked if he was interested in purchasing the guitar, he replied, “It should not leave this island. It should not leave Ireland. It’s equal as a symbol to this country“.

He added; “I’m one of the biggest guitar collectors in the world and it just doesn’t feel right to take this out of Ireland. It’s no slight to anyone that buys it but I’m trying to encourage people before the auction (Oct 17th) that if there’s any well off people that have discretionary income that happens to have a love for Rory’s music and a little bit of patriotism, to set up some kind of a conservatorship, where they own the instrument but the guitar stays here (Ireland)“.

Tickets for Joe Bonamassa celebrating the legacy of Rory Gallagher will be on sale from Friday, October 4th via Ticketmaster.
