SUNSTROKE FESTIVAL 2020 – FEATURING FAITH NO MORE, DEFTONES, GOJIRA AND MANY MORE…

Posted on by Oran

Just when all hope was lost for an Irish Festival that caters for the Rock/Metal/Alternative genres, let us present to you ‘SUNSTROKE 2020’ – featuring FAITH NO MORE, DEFTONES, GOJIRA, REFUSED, AT THE GATES, KILLING JOKE, WHILE SHE SLEEPS, SKINDRED, HELMET, FRANK CARTER, BOWLING FOR SOUP, THE JESUES & MARY CHAIN, BLACK VEIL BRIDES, NORTHLANE and many, many more…

Taking place in Punchestown, in Co. Kildare, MCD confirm Ireland’s new Alternative Rock/Metal Festival, ‘SUNSTROKE 2020’ which will be taking place on Saturday June 13th and Sunday June 14th next Summer.

With a capacity of ten thousand punters per day, camping facilities and three stages, offering the very best in international and Irish Alternative/Rock and Metal artists, 2020 will mark a new dawn for heavy music festival fans and this is only the start!

Tickets for SUNSTROKE 2020 will be on sale from 9am on December 3rd, priced at €129.00 for an early-bird weekend standard ticket and €159.50 for an early-bird weekend camping ticket.

After some cryptic posts on social media Overdrive can now reveal FAITH NO MORE’s  highly anticipated return to Ireland for an exclusive headline performance at SUNSTROKE 2020.

It’s been four years since the release of their heralded comeback album, Sol Invictus, and three since the group’s last live show.

Since then, the trailblazing alt-metal band has been on “an extended break,” according to singer Mike Patton. This will be the bands only Irish date for 2020.

2019 also marks the 30th anniversary of the bands ground-breaking cross-over classic ‘The Real Thing‘ which no doubt will play heavily in the bands Sunstroke Festival performance.

And while The Real Thing would not go down as Faith No More’s masterpiece (most would argue, its follow-up, 1992’s Angel Dust, to get that honour), it probably served as one of the first albums owned by diehard headbangers that was not 100-percent metal.

Following 2 sold out nights in the Irish capital back in 2017, Sacramento collective, aka DEFTONES will be making their return with an exclusive Irish performance at SUNSTROKE 2020.

The band are currently putting the final touches to their forthcoming new album, which Overdrive reported a few weeks back is nearing completion.

This will be Deftones first open-air performance on Irish soil and there is no doubt in our mind that this will be one for the books. Bring it…..

Speaking of first’s, GOJIRA will also be making their open-air Irish debut at SUNSTROKE 2020 with a mainstage performance that they so well deserve.

From their crammed, sweaty infamous show in Whelan’s waaaaay back in 2009 on ‘The Way of All Flesh‘ tour, to selling out the capital’s Academy venue upon every return, the French quartet have a well-established relationship with Irish punters and it’s about to get even more ‘familiar’ as they bring their crushing live show to Punchestown this June.

Just when you thought you can take a breath here, we can also confirm, The Jesus and Mary Chain will return to Ireland for this very special event.

Released into the world, The Jesus and Mary Chain became the darlings of British press, as they searched to find the owner of the post punk crown in the mid 80’s. With strong Velvet Underground influences, and a despondent but melodic wall of noise, they went on to become the inspiration for such critically acclaimed bands such as My Bloody Valentine in the early 90’s.

A succession of well documented break ups, fuelled by brotherly love and internal tensions followed. The brothers came together in 2007 to perform at Coachella Music Festival, to be joined on stage by Scarlett Johansson, for the “Just Like Honey” hit.

More bands featuring over the weekend are FRANK CARTER & THE RATTLESNAKES, SKINDREDKILLING JOKE, REFUSED, NECK DEEP, AT THE GATES, THE HU, WHILE SHE SLEEPS, HELMET, NORTHLANE, DEAD LABEL, BOWLING FOR SOUP, BLACK VEIL BRIDES, FANGCLUB, DINOSAUR PILE-UP, THE SCRATCH, BITCH FALCON, WARGASM, PARANOID VISIONS and many more to still be announced!

Check out some of the bangers you’ll be treated too over the SUNSTROKE 2020 weekend…
