In the video, Harvey takes on the challenging task of portraying five distinct personas, each representing fractured aspects of the self. It’s a visually arresting narrative that digs deep into the themes of identity, internal struggle, and self-confrontation.
“While ‘Sick Ones’ is about cutting toxic people out of your life—those who constantly devalue you—I wanted to flip that narrative for the video,” explains Harvey. “I’ve always been fascinated by the idea that sometimes, the most dangerous person to confront is yourself.”
“The video explores what it means to face those darker versions of who we’ve been, and whether we can truly leave them behind… or, as the ending suggests, learn to coexist peacefully. Vicente took my vision and brought it to life. I came to him with a wild idea and no clue how to execute it—and we made it work! I loved getting a chance to play multiple larger-than-life characters.”
Carla Harvey’s creative resume is unlike any other. A comic book author, embalmer, and seasoned musician, she’s made a career out of defying convention.
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Harvey’s upbringing in a racially divided environment helped shape her raw, introspective artistry.
From perfume counter jobs to gas station night shifts, she hustled through school at the College for Creative Studies by day and played gigs with local bands by night. At just 20, she packed her life into a car and drove across the country to Los Angeles with nothing but a paper map and a dream.
Once in LA, Harvey landed small acting roles—including a part in Rules of Engagement—all while chasing her true calling through music and visual storytelling. But her interests weren’t limited to the stage; she pursued a Bachelor’s in Mortuary Science, graduating top of her class, followed by a Master’s degree in Thanatology. Harvey became a licensed funeral director and embalmer, later founding her own grief counselling service—all while maintaining a relentless global touring schedule.
She now serves as a Grief Specialist for Parting Stone, a pioneering company that transforms cremated remains into solid, touchable memorial stones—offering a tactile way to honour the departed.
Outside of her professional roles, Harvey is an unapologetic pop culture obsessive. Her personal collection includes everything from vintage Barbies and wrestling memorabilia to Elvira collectables and relics from her wilder Hollywood nights—including drink tickets from the Rainbow Bar & Grill and a poker chip from Lemmy Kilmister’s final birthday party.
Influenced by cultural rebels like Russ Meyer, Robert Crumb, Charles Bukowski and Robert Williams, Harvey’s work is steeped in grit, sensuality, and authenticity.
To date, she’s released six studio albums, a string of graphic novels, and a 2014 literary debut, Death and Other Dances. Yet despite her far-reaching accomplishments, Harvey remains grounded.
“At heart, I’m still just a blue-collar kid from the Midwest with big dreams.”
