AFI ANNOUNCE ‘SING THE SORROW’ 20TH ANNIVERSARY VINYL RE-PRESS

Posted on by Oran

AFI’s sixth studio LP ‘Sing the Sorrow’ celebrated a musical milestone this past weekend, and in marking the effort’s 20th anniversary, the punk vets have treated the effort to a new vinyl pressing.

At long last, ‘Sing the Sorrow’ comes back to wax officially for the first time since its initial release on March 11, 2003. In recent years, unofficial vinyl pressings have appeared on the market to meet demand, while resale sites like Discogs show how hard-to-find original pressings regularly fetch steep three-figure prices.

Now, the 20th anniversary repress of Sing the Sorrow arrives on “red with black smoke” coloured vinyl, ahead of an “indie exclusive,” black and red pinwheel-coloured edition arriving as part of Record Store Day 2023. The band’s official website has the former edition available for pre-order.

AFI also celebrated Sing the Sorrow with a performance of the album in its entirety, playing the Kia Forum in Los Angeles the day of its anniversary with support from Jawbreaker, Chelsea Wolfe, and Choir Boy. You can watch fan-shot footage of the band’s hour-long set below.

Produced by Jerry Finn and Butch VigSing the Sorrow stands as a musical departure from the hardcore, and horror punk that defined AFI’s first five full-lengths, marking a pivot towards the post-hardcore, alternative, and emo sounds they would go on to further explore on efforts like 2006 follow-up Decemberunderground and 2013’s Burials.

AFI last shared 11th album Bodies in 2021.

Pre-order ‘Sing The Sorrow’ re-press via this link. Limited to 2 copies per person.
